Every Easter top-ranked surfers descend on Torquay for the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach.
This year the ASP World Championship Tour’s best surfers, including one Rip Curl Wildcard and one local Victorian Wildcard from the Championship Moves Trials, will compete for the coveted Bells Trophy. Also joining them will be the 16-year-old junior talent, who will be in town competing in the international final of the Rip Curl GromSearch Series.
The Rip Curl Pro is an event for the whole family to enjoy. From 1 April – 12 April tourists and locals will head to Bells Beach to catch the world’s most famous surfers in action. With its rugged cliffs and booming swell, Bells Beach is the perfect host for this prestigious event. Keen surf-lovers can watch surfers carve out awe-inspiring waves, while taking in the beauty of our coastline’s natural surrounds.
This year, the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach will celebrate its 54th year, which makes it the world’s longest running surf competition. Previous winners include such big names as Mick Fanning, Carissa Moore, Stephanie Gilmore and Kelly Slater. With surf champions like this flocking to our shores every Easter, it is no surprise that Torquay has become a major drawcard for holiday-makers during this period.
Torquay comes alive at Easter time, with the whole town pulling together to welcome visitors and tourists from interstate and overseas. Some of our town’s best pubs, bars and cafes are open throughout the Easter break, adding to the vibrant atmosphere the ASP World Tour creates when it’s in town.
Everybody knows Torquay as Australia’s surf capital, but it’s not until you visit over the Easter period that you really get a sense of how and why we’ve earned that title. Torquay is truly a surfing mecca. The beautiful swell of Bells Beach is unmatched anywhere in the world.
